The credit repair process is not magic. Nor is it the product of closely guarded trade secrets that you must pay dearly to obtain. It is something that you can and should do for yourself. It is a process of methodically challenging incorrect information that has been reported to one, or all three of the credit bureaus. This incorrect information can ONLY be removed from your credit file by sending a letter challenging it's accuracy. Federal law requires that the credit bureaus have a period of 30 days in which to verify the information. If they fail to to so within that 30 day period - they are required to remove it from your file.
You can reasonably expect positive results to appear in your credit file within 45 days of starting the repair process. Incorrect information will be removed, and that may have a positive effect on your credit score. Incorrect information may include the number of credit inquiries, late payment information, and incorrect account information just to name a few.
Here are just a few of the things to expect during the credit repair process;
-
Expect to order all three of your credit reports and spend some time going through them to find errors. The bureaus will not bring errors to your attention.
-
Expect to send letters challenging incorrect information - and then wait for a response. Sometimes that response will be "The information is correct and will remain in your file".
-
If that is the case, and you know that the information is incorrect - expect to send additional letters and wait for additional responses.
-
Expect the entire process to take anywhere from 3 to 6 months. This is the time required to challenge information and send follow up letters to remove the errors.
-
Expect to feel great as incorrect information is removed from the reports and your FICO score jumps.
-
Expect to get great offers for credit cards, loans, and insurance from companies in our network as your credit score increases. To learn more, see The Resource Center
